Unplag is sponsoring a scholarship for students around the world to have a chance at winning $2,000. Unplag is a plagiarism detection engine and has launched this contest to help promote originality amongst international students.

To enter, students can be from any country around the world, studying in any country around the world. Students can also be pursuing any degree program, however, they must be at least 18 years old to enter. To enter the contest you must submit a 500 word essay on one of the following topics:

• Academic cheating can deprive you of a successful career.
• Being original will soon become a trend.
• Technologies able to fight academic cheating.
• Does online education “promote” academic dishonesty?
• Can plagiarism be eliminated once and for all?
• Plagiarism addiction kills creativity and critical thinking.
• How does the digital age influence plagiarism and cheating?
• Is social networking causing a plagiarism problem?
• Cross-culture differences concerning plagiarism.
• What if some of my educators were found guilty of plagiarism?

Your essay should be creative, original, use humor and submitted by the deadline.

The $2,000 grand prize will be given directly to the college or university in which the winner is studying. This prize can then be used toward education related expenses.

Atlas Shrugged Essay Contest

Ayn Rand is hosting a worldwide essay contest for students to have a chance at receiving one of more than 85 prizes. There is not an age limit for this contest, however, only twelfth graders, college undergraduates and college graduate students are able to apply before the October 23rd deadline for a chance to win. The following prizes will be awarded:

  • One 1st place winner: $20,000
  • Three 2nd place winners: $2,000
  • Five 3rd place winners: $1,000
  • Twenty-five finalists: $100
  • Fifty semifinalists: $50

The winners will receive their prize as a cash prize, there is not a restriction on how the prize can be used.

Students from around the world can enter to win this essay contest as there is not a specific citizenship requirement. However, students can only submit one essay and it must be specific to Ayn Rand novel Atlas Shrugged.

Giorgio Rota Best Paper Award

Centro Einaudi has launched their third annual Giorgio Rota Best Paper Award. Candidates must submit a high-quality scientific paper on the economics of illegal activities and corruption before April 6th.

Individuals from around the world can apply for this award but must have been born after December 31st, 1977 and be studying one of the following: Sociology, Geography, Criminal & Forensic Science, Public Relations, Political Science, Liberal Arts/Humanities, Economics, Public Administration, Law & Legal Studies, Cultural Studies, Business/Management and Architecture & Design.

Three 1200 Euro awards will be granted in addition to a maximum of 500 Euros for travel expenses to join the Giorgio Rota Conference to present their work.

An award committee will select the three winning papers based upon the following criteria:

  • Relevance to the topic
  • Literature review
  • Quality of the methods and the data
  • Originality of the data and the conclusions
  • Understandability

This award is in honor of Giorgio Rota, a leading Italian economist in charge of economic research at the Centro Einaudi for many years. The Centro Einaudi is based in Turin and conducts independent research in the fields of political economy, welfare policies, government and marketing competition.

If you like answering trivia questions and love scholarships then the EdU scholarship is a great opportunity you need to check out. CompareCards.com is hosting this scholarship and will award one student $2,500 each month.

If you’re interested in this scholarship you must be enrolled in college, be at least 16 years of age and a resident of the United States. This is a great opportunity for US citizens or residents who are studying abroad through a US college or university.

The New School Competition

Want to study in New York City but need help finding the funds? Join The New School Competition! Ten students will receive a scholarship to help them pay for their tuition at The New School. There will be one full tuition scholarship and one partial tuition scholarship at each of the five participating divisions.

Individuals are eligible to apply for this scholarship if they meet the following criteria:

  • Are a high school or college student
  • Plan on attending the New School

To enter to win this scholarship you must first read the contest rules and eligibility requirements. You must then complete the challenge and apply to The New School before February 1st.

The challenge will consist of many parts including registration, the New School quiz, a global citizen quiz, the creation of your own video story and applying to the New School.

After the initial screening of all entries 20 candidates will be selected to continue in the competition based upon their quiz results and their creative case video. One finalist will be picked to move along in the competition based upon video views and comments. The final winners will then be chosen and contacted by March 23rd.

The 2014 InternationalStudent.com Travel Video Contest Winner

Congrats DanielleIn September we announced that InternationalStudent.com was hosting their ninth annual Travel Video Contest. The contest was open to anyone age 18 and older who is enrolled or plans on being enrolled in a college or university outside their home country. If you’re wondering who walked away with the winning titles last week- we have the answer and are pleased to announce the Travel Video Contest Winner!

The $4,000 grand prize winner was Danielle Boxill for her video “My Illustrated Life.”
Danielle grew up Trinidad and it was there that she discovered her love for animation. Wanting to pursue animation as a career- she first wants to start by obtaining an accredited animation degree. Studying in the US will be her chance to start her dream. Watch “My Illustrated Life” and watch Danielle’s story unfold. Danielle will also be blogging about her studies in the US through her very own blog. Visit her blog on InternationalStudent.com to hear (and maybe watch) more of her stories come to life.

The second place winner ($500) was Anh Nguyen for his video “Revisiting Homeland Vietnam.”
After visiting his homeland of Vietnam Anh realized that along with the vast beauty, there is also vast poverty- and he was inspired to make a difference. Watch Anh’s video and see how he plans to take action within Vietnam.

The third place winner ($250) was Drew Thomas for his video “Hollywood of the North.”
Drew has a love (and talent) for visual effects. He wants to take his talent to the next level by attending CG Masters School of 3D Animation & VFX- but needed some financial help. Denmark-India Innovation Challenge

All citizens of India are able to participate in the Denmark-India Innovation Challenge! This challenge will grant three winners a full paid study trip to Denmark. Winning students will see what it’s like to study at a university in Denmark and have access to the VIP award ceremony in either Bangalore or Delhi. There the winners will have the chance to talk with representatives from Danish business and education communities. The prize will include round-trip airfare, accommodation and visits to some of the top attractions.

To enter you must create an account then complete a short timed quiz. You will be asked to answer 10 questions on the quiz and to submit a personal statement. Your statement must answer an essay question based upon one of the following subjects: art & design, engineering or natural science. You will also have the chance to share why you should be the Denmark-India Innovation Challenge winner. Students can only enter once and must follow all application rules. Although students must be an Indian citizen, they can be pursuing any degree program in any country around the world.

Students must submit their application to win before October 21st.


The Financial Aid Fun Contest Awarded Three Students

During the month of July three questions were asked, giving current and future international students three chances to win $100. If you missed the three questions and the announcement of each winner, catch up now! The Financial Aid Fun Contest awarded three students $100- see who won!

Round #1:

Answer: “A cosigner is someone who guarantees that if the borrower cannot pay back the loan, they will be legally responsible to pay back the debt. Tanaka and Green Academic Scholarship

This scholarship is available to US citizens who are studying in Japan short term (one semester or academic year). Six individuals will be awarded this scholarship in the amount of $5,000 each to use toward the upcoming academic year expenses.

The Tanaka and Green Academic Scholarship can be used for tuition and academic fees, room and board, travel and transportation and other approved expenses.

Eligible applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate school in the United States
  • Must give proof of acceptance at a college or university in Japan
  • Must give proof that the program in Japan is an approved student exchange program of the applicant’s home college or university in the US
  • Must intend to return to the college or university in the United States
  • May be majors in any subject, but must demonstrate that they have taken or plan to take academic courses related to Japan, whether in the US or at the Japan college or university
  • Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States

The Tanaka and Green Academic Scholarship was established by the Japan-America Society of Washington DD (JASW). The scholarship is made possible in thanks to the society’s H. William and Lily Tanaka Scholarship Endowment and the Marshal and Lispenard Green Educational Endowment.

Full Merit Scholarship At Global College Malta

Students who want to study in Malta and not have to worry about paying tuition will want to apply for the Full Merit Scholarship at Global College Malta (GCM). Ten eligible students will receive a full grant that waives tuition fees if pursuing an MBA, a BA in Management or a Foundation Course in Management with English.

Applicants for this scholarship can be from anywhere in the world, but must have been accepted to Global College Malta and apply for this award by July 1st. To apply, students can submit the scholarship application form, their CV and a 200 word statement on why they chose to study at GCM.

The ten recipients of this award will be chosen based upon the first ten applicants who apply for the award and meet the academic merit criteria.
