This month International Student is giving away $250 to the student with the best advice! Throughout the month students can send in their best piece of advice or tip to graduating international students. At the end of the month the International Student judges will sift through each of the tips and tricks- and the student that sends in the best advice will win!

Your tip should be original (meaning you created it) and helpful. Adding creativity to your tip will also help increase your shot at receiving the $250! The contest is open to current international students or those who are planning to study abroad in the near future. It is not restricted based upon your home country, the school you attend or the degree you are pursuing.

After you have brainstormed for your best tip for graduating international students, send it to International Student through their Facebook, Twitter or Google+ page. Make sure to send it in during the month of May to qualify to be entered to win the prize.

Paul Sumerall Memorial Scholarship

In memory of Paul Sumerall and to help promote research toward international money transfers and cross-border remittances, the Merchants Bank of California established the Paul Sumerall Memorial Scholarship.

Six scholarships will be granted in a varying amount between $500 and $2,500. Students from around the world are able to apply for this scholarship by completing the online application. Individuals who apply can be college/university students, graduate students and researchers with an interest in international transfer of funds.

The application consists of five parts:

  • basic information
  • academics
  • activities
  • awards/honors
  • project

Pursuing studies related to international money transfers will be an important deciding factor when considering candidates- as the funds can be used toward expenses related to a money transfer project or study.

When it comes to finding scholarships, even those with a smaller award amount are helpful! Participate in the Internationalstudent.com Win a Pot of Gold contest and you will have a chance to win a $25 amazon gift card. Keep in mind that this award is only open for international students to participate in until March 17th– St. Patrick’s Day.

Here is a breakdown of the steps you need to follow to enter:

  1. Visit their Facebook, Google+ or Twitter page and like or follow them.
  2. On or before March 17th tell them what you would do if you found an actual pot of gold on their Facebook or Google+ wall, or tweet them @intstudent.
  3. Impress them with your answer and you could win a $25 Amazon gift card!

The Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS)

The Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) is a postgraduate and postdoctoral scholarship intended to draw talented international students to Malaysia in order to study a number of prioritized disciplines at one of the well-established public or private universities in the country.

Each Malaysia International Scholarship consists of:

•Airfare to Malaysia
•A tuition waiver
•A monthly spending allowance
•An annual grant for books/domestic travel
•Medical/health insurance
•An installation and termination grant
•A thesis allowance
•A visa (assuming all other student visa requirements are adequately met—the offer of the MIS does not in itself guarantee a visa)

There are a number of criteria an international student must meet in order to be eligible for the MIS. Applicants for the MIS must:

• Be no more than 40 years of age for postgraduate applicants, or 45 years of age for postdoctoral applicants
•(Postgraduate) have obtained either a minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours) or a CGPA of 3.5/4.0 at the Bachelor’s Degree level (for Master’s Degree applicants), and a CGPA of 3.5/4.0 at the Master’s Degree level for Phd applicants
•(Postdoctoral) be prepared to be assessed based on the number of books produced, submissions to refereed/non refereed journals, overall portfolio, patent copyrights, reputation as a researcher, and possession of knowledge related to the research that is to be carried out
•Have taken an English Language Proficiency Test not more than two years before the date of application, scoring at least:

◦IELTS Academic Test/6.5
◦TOEFL (paper)/580
◦TOEFL (computer)/230
◦TOEFL (internet)/92

•Be certified to be in excellent health/condition by a certified medical professional
•Have written a proposal in one of the prioritized fields of study (to be listed, below) that shows a potential contribution to advancing technology and human well-being
•Have applied for and gained admission to postgraduate or postdoctoral studies in Malaysia (conditional letters of offer are accepted at time of application)

Prioritized Fields of Study:

1. Science and Engineering
2.Agriculture and Fisheries
3.Economics and Islamic Finance
4.Information and Communications Technology
5.Biotechnology
6.Biosecurity and Food Safety
7.Infrastructure and Utility
8.Environmental Studies
9.Health (not including nursing, medicine, or clinical pharmacy)

KIC InnoEnergy Challenge

If you want a two year scholarship for your graduate studies, make sure you check out the KIC InnoEnergy Challenge. This scholarship is open to individuals from around the world with a bachelor’s degree from a European university who are pursuing an electrical, chemical, mechanical or energy engineering degree. These students must also be accepted and enroll in one of the KIC InnoEnergy Master School programmes to be eligible for this scholarship.

The winner of this challenge will receive a scholarship for €750 per month for two years along with a trip to Barcelona in July to attend the KIC InnoEnergy Master School info session and prize ceremony. Eligible individuals can enter this challenge through the following steps:

Start the new year off with some extra cash! Before January 15th students are able to submit their original photo into the DirectTextbook.com photo essay contest for a chance to receive $500.00. Students must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a US citizen or resident
  • Be enrolled in an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university
  • Not currently be incarcerated
  • Have a GPA of 2.0 (on a scale of 4.0) or higher
  • Be a high school graduate

Photo entries must capture the theme of “balance” and be accompanied by the fully completed application form.

Students who enter have the chance to win one of following three scholarships:

UFAW Animal Welfare Scholarship

In 1983 the Universities Federation for Animal Welfare (UFAW) established its first student scholarship to enable students to pursue relevant research relating to the welfare of animals. The UFAW Animal Welfare scholarship annually grants twenty students £1600 to use toward the research of improving the welfare of farm, companion, laboratory, zoo or free-living wild animals whose welfare has been compromised by humans. The funds will be distributed over an eight week period in the amount of £170 per week for allowances and £30 per week for project expenses.

This project can be undertaken as part of coursework or simply as a project that is of interest to the applicant. Upon completion of research, scholars are required to create a complete write-up of their findings along with present the information at an annual meeting that will be held at a university within the UK.

Students must be studying at a college or university within the British Isles or at a university with a UFAW link.

KTH Master’s Challenge

KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm is hosting the KTH Master’s Challenge! The competition is open to those who have been accepted/will be into their chosen KTH Royal Institute program at the time of entry. For each master’s program there will be a first, second and third place prize awarded. The awards are as follows:

First: A full scholarship for one of the three programs at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, a VIP invitation to the prize ceremony in India- domestic travel and lodging expenses covered, a winner’s certificate and the university application fee waived.

Second and Third: A VIP invitation to the prize ceremony- with domestic travel and lodging expenses covered, a winner’s certificate and the university application fee waived.

Winners may also receive additional prizes from ABB- including work projects and a cash prize.

To enter the competition, follow the steps:

  1. Sign up to enter
  2. Take the short IQ quiz
  3. Take a short quiz on Sweden-India relations, Swedish innovation and KTH
  4. Choose your program
  5. Take a short quiz based upon your chosen program
  6. Write a personal statement

Each step must be completed by November 12th, the winners will be announced December 18th and the prize ceremony will follow in January.

International Student Essay Contest

If you’ve been applying to every scholarship opportunity that comes your way and still need more awards to apply for, you’re in luck! The International Student Essay Contest launches today and will allow you to create an award-winning essay about either your study abroad experience or that of a friend or family member. Traveling abroad, especially to study, gives an individual a number of great stories and International Student wants to hear yours.

Essays must be submitted before September 1 and be between 300 and 500 words. To submit your essay, follow these simple steps:

Abercrombie & Fitch International Global Diversity & Leadership Award

Abercrombie & Fitch and the National Society of High School Scholars have teamed up to bring international students the Abercrombie & Fitch International Global Diversity & Leadership Award. Students who are currently enrolled in or will be within the upcoming academic semester at a college or university and will be attending class in Australia, China, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates or the United Kingdom are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Nine awards will be granted to international students in the amount of $1000 USD. This award can go towards tuition, books, room & board, or other educational expenses. There is not a specific field that students need to be pursuing to apply for this scholarship; however, they must have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale).

Recipients of this scholarship are chosen based upon their academic record, recommendations and their responses to the questions on the award application.
